Fixing Instructions

Sheets must not be stacked in direct sunlight or distortion and discolouration will occur, due to the serveral thicknesses acting as a magnifying glass and causing heat build up within the stack. If left in the open, sheets should be covered with an opaque(not black) tarpaulin. Stack height should not exceed 1.22m(4'0") and should be supported on 2" battens, not more than 3' apart.

Cut sheets singly or several together over a firm support. Use a fine tooth saw at a low angle. If 'binding' occurs the saw can be lubricated. Care should be taken in handling and cutting in very cold weather. Extreme caution is recommended at temps below 4.5degrees Centigrade(40 Fahrenheit). Drill sheets singly or several together, preferably over a firm support using a hand or slow speed power drill and a masonry bit. Holes should be 2mm(1/16") oversize the fixing screw or bolt. Never punch holes through the sheets;all holes must be pre-drilled prior to nailing. Always use Ariel fixings comprising screws, washers, caps and for better support use Ariel Super Fixings(See profile diagram and Purlin Centres). When lapping ends of sheets the minimum lap should be 150mm (6"). But where the roof slope is less than a 10 degree a 12" overlap is recommended. Never leave inadequately fixed sheets on unfinished jobs. Fixings should not be overtightened and no nearer ends of sheets than 50mm(2"). A false ceiling must not be erected below the Vistalux as this will cause heat to build up which will discolour or distort trhe Vistalux sheet.

Wind Loading. Where sheets are to be used on buildings subject to high wind loadings, or other unusual conditions, please refer to the technical advisors.

Flashing. Where Vistalux sheet meet a wall, the gap should be sealed wiht Clear PVC flashing and flat aluminium flashing or rpeformed aluminium flashing.

Eaves-Fillers. Available to suit all profiles, Insert at eaves and ridge to give a weather-tight seal and a neat finish.

Sealing Tapes. Available to suit all profiles, Insert between lapped sheets to provide a realiable seal against dust and dirt.

It is important to use a crawling board if you cannot avoid working on a roof using PVC sheeting. This should span the corrugations across at least 2 purlins.
